Job Description

Dis-Chem Pharmacies’ has an opportunity available for a Treasury Accountant to join the team based in Midrand. The purpose of this role will be to assist the Head of Treasury in managing the Group’s treasury function, including cash and liquidity management, foreign exchange reporting, governance and compliance, preparation of statutory financial statements, and strategic treasury support. This role includes management of certain treasury and finance staff and plays a critical role in improving treasury controls, processes, and reporting.


Minimum Requirements

Essential:

  • CA(SA) or equivalent (e.g. CIMA/ACCA/CPA)
  • Minimum of 3–5 years’ post-articles experience in treasury, corporate finance, or financial control
Advantageous:
  • BCom Honours in Accounting/Finance, SAP experience, advanced Excel skills
  • Experience in a retail, listed, or FMCG environment; prior people management experience
  • Treasury management system experience


Job Specification

Transactions:

  • Prepare short-, medium-, and long-term cash flow forecasts for the Group
  • Monitor daily cash positions and ensure liquidity sufficiency
  • Process and authorise intercompany transfers, funding arrangements, and treasury transactions
  • Assist with execution and monitoring of foreign exchange instruments
  • Maintain and improve cash flow forecasting models
Financial Analysis and Control:
  • Analyse treasury trends and exposures across multiple currencies and entities
  • Prepare FX exposure and hedging reports, including tracking of forward exchange contracts
  • Perform monthly foreign currency revaluations and journal entries
  • Provide input into board and management reporting packs
Management:
  • Assist the Head of Treasury in managing the day-to-day treasury operations
  • Supervise junior treasury staff and finance personnel as assigned
  • Develop and implement SOPs for treasury processes
  • Drive internal control improvements within the treasury function
Financial Reporting:
  • Assist in the preparation of the Group’s statutory financial statements
  • Prepare treasury-related disclosures and financial statement inputs
  • Support financial year-end processes and external audits
Strategic Projects:
  • Participate in banking partner reviews, funding projects and ESG-related treasury initiatives
  • Assist in evaluating and implementing treasury systems and automation tools
  • Contribute to initiatives around sustainable finance and treasury optimisation
Report:
  • Prepare and maintain treasury dashboards and internal reports
  • Ensure treasury compliance with accounting standards, tax laws, and exchange control regulations
  • Monitor treasury KPIs and report on key metrics to stakeholders
Problem Solving:
  • Analyse and resolve complex treasury issues, including FX exposures, banking constraints and liquidity mismatches
  • Resolve queries escalated from junior staff, external banks, or internal stakeholders
  • Identify and recommend process enhancements
Compliance:
  • Ensure compliance with SARS, SARB Exchange Control, Companies Act and internal audit requirements
  • Assist with external and internal audits, including preparation of supporting documentation
  • Maintain policies and procedures relating to treasury and ensure ongoing relevance
  • Monitor banking mandates and authorisation controls
