Dis-Chem Pharmacies in Midrand has an opportunity available for a Technical Quality Control Officer. The main purpose of the role is to ensure products received are of quality, stored and in accordance with compliance standards. This includes inspecting products, identifying and resolving defects or discrepancies, and upholding Dis-Chem quality standards to support operational excellence and customer satisfaction.

Minimum Requirement:

Essential:

  • Matric or equivalent Senior Certificate
  • Certificate in Quality Control, Logistics, Supply Chain or related field
  • Minimum of 1 – 2 years of experience in quality control, warehousing, retail or related field

Advantageous:

  • Health and Safety certification relevant to warehouse operations
  • Strong focus on product inspection,inventory handling, and compliance with quality standards

Quality Control:

  • Inspect incoming products to verify the quality and accuracy of items received from suppliers or other
    warehouses.
  • Arrange inspections of containers and incoming stock with relevant regulatory authorities, including: Botswana Medicines Regulatory Authority (BoMRA) Border Management Authority (BMA) National Regulatory Compulsory Specifications Body (NRCS) South African Police Services (SAPS) Department of Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries and Environmental Affairs (DFFE)
  • Arrange and coordinate the collection of warehouse samples required for Head Office assessments.
  • Conduct inventory audits to assess product condition and identify discrepancies or defects.
  • Identify, document, and report any defects, damages, or discrepancies that occur during inspections or audits.
  • Sample products during receiving processes and reject products that do not meet the specified standards.

Compliance and Reporting:

  • Take appropriate action to address identified quality issues, including notifying suppliers and escalate matters where necessary.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all quality control activities, including inspection reports, sample tracking, and audit results.
  • Collaborate closely with warehouse staff to ensure that all quality control procedures are understood and consistently followed.
  • Ensure the proper implementation of quality standards for the handling, storage, and shipping of products.
  • Conduct daily warehouse floor walks to monitor stock conditions and identify any potential quality risks.
  • Timeously escalate unresolved quality concerns or non-conformance issues to management for further action.

Special conditions of employment:

  • Driver’s license and/or own reliable transport
  • Occasional travel to various warehouse locations and external sites is required to conduct inspections, audits, and regulatory assessments.
  • Work is primarily conducted in a warehouse setting, requiring exposure to varying temperatures, noise levels, and moving equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks. Safety protocols and personal protective equipment (PPE) must be always adhered to.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to safely lift, carry, and move products or equipment weighing up to approximately 5 kilograms during inspections or sample collections.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods (up to several hours) while conducting inspections, inventory audits, or monitoring warehouse operations
  • Ability to walk throughout large warehouse facilities to perform quality control activities, including inspections at various storage locations.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and crouch as necessary to inspect lower-level shelves, pallets, or containers during quality assessments.
